Burberry Group Plc @Burberry is a British company, a manufacturer of luxury clothing, accessories and perfumes. Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry when he opened a small manufactory store in Hampshire.

In 1880, Thomas Burberry invented the world’s first “breathable” waterproof gabardine fabric, named after a secluded place found in Shakespeare’s works where you could hide from the weather. In 1888, gabardine production technology was patented. Clothing from the new material has become an alternative to heavy rubberized mac-coats [3].

In the first decades of its existence, the company specialized in the production of outerwear, was a supplier of the British army. Burberry protective clothing was equipped with an expedition of Royal Amundsen to the South Pole.

In 1900, the company opened a store in Paris [4].

During World War I, the company supplied water-repellent officer overcoats. The model was called the trench coat (English trench coat) [4].

After the end of World War I, the company’s clothing became popular among civilians. In particular, characters from such famous films as Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, as well as some characters from the famous series Poirot Agatha Christie, were dressed in Burberry clothes.

In 1920, the company’s shares began to be traded on the London Stock Exchange.

From 1926 until the early 1950s, the company was headed by the second son of the founder, Arthur Michael. In 1955, Burberry was acquired by Great Universal Stores (GUS).

The Burberry brand was popular in the 1960s and 1970s [4].

From July 1, 2006 until the spring of 2014, Angela Arends was the CEO of the company. Over the 7.5 years of Burberry management, Arends has increased the company’s sales almost three times to more than $ 3 billion, while the company’s capitalization has grown by 300% [5]. She radically changed the range of products and began to actively conquer new markets – China, India, Dubai and the United States. In addition, Arends was the first of such large-scale managers to promote designer luxury clothes in social networks [6].
